Spicy mac n cheese beef taco

One of the good places to get a burger around here is Rocky’s Famous Burgers in NewMarket.  One of their interesting creations is the Big Mac n Cheese Burger.  That’s right, they put macaroni and cheese on a burger.  I used up my ground beef last night preparing it for nachos and I don’t have any hamburger buns so I went with the next best thing: a tortilla.

I took my tortilla and spread a modest layer of my nacho cheese on it followed by some of that ground beef, spicy mac n cheese, and a little shredded cheddar.  I put that in the toaster oven for 4 minutes then topped it off with chopped lettuce, tomatoes, olives, and some sour cream.  I then folder over my 8″ taco and carefully ate the whole thing being careful not to let any of the contents spill out.

Was it better than a Rocky’s burger?  I’m not really sure.  It’s hard to compare burgers and tacos.  I do know it was freaking delicious.

I feel like I’ve been posting only about food lately, but is that really a bad thing?  Today, by no design of my own, I ended up at Rocky’s for lunch with Mike, Marquis and Amanda.  It was one of those spur of the moment decisions which I wholeheartedly agreed to.  If you’re not familiar with this burger establishment, feast your eyes on this – http://www.rockysfamousburgers.com/.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve been there, but I know I have consumed the following menu items:

  • The London
  • The Mule
  • The California
  • The Big Mac n Cheese
  • The Lexi
  • The Daredevil
  • Fries
  • Sweet Potato Fries

I have a few more items to try, but I think I have a modest list of achievement.  Each burger on the menu can come with a beef, bison, chicken, or veggie patty.  You can also build your own, or get The Rocky Jr. and add anything you want.  Today I tried the Daredevil.

The description of The Daredevil is as follows: “You pick the patty. We pick the toppings! Try at your own risk.”  I’ve heard stories about breakfast items, random meats, and what have you, but I wasn’t prepared for the plate of awesome that was brought out to me.

I apologize for the quality of the images.  I used my cell phone.  What we have here is a Taco Burger, I think.  Here are the ingredients:

  • Burger
  • Cheese
  • Lettuce
  • Tomato
  • Onions
  • Jalapeño chilies
  • Salsa
  • A taco shell with meat inside (The Taco)

Snake jawsThe Daredevil was very large and in charge.  Luckily my superior smashing and jaw-unhinging skills came in handy at the restaurant.  If you haven’t been to Rocky’s before, you should know the burgers are often 5″ tall or more.  I’ve heard some people are unable to finish a Rocky’s burger and I feel sorry for them.

One thing to notice about the Rocky’s menu, other than the burgers, are the toppings.  Do you know anywhere else that charges 25 cents for cheese?  If you go to Burger King and ask for cheese on your Whopper I think it costs 60 cents or so.  Last I checked, you couldn’t ask for pepper jack or blue cheese crumbles there.  I think next time I go I’m going to get a large fry and load them up with toppings.  I could do blue cheese and bacon, or cheddar, nacho, onions, pico de gallo, and guacamole to make “nachos.”  The possibilities are almost endless.
